History of Pick A Posy
We are not entirely sure how the name of ‘Pick-A-Posy’ becomes the name of this lovely quirky flower shop.
It is known that two ladies in the early 1960s first opened the shop as a florist. The shop is situated on the corner of Stanhope Road and Bryant Road in Strood, Rochester in the lovely county of Kent, UK.
We have no exact history of their time there. Only one occasion in 2014, two separate couples that were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary came into the shop and said that they both could remember having their wedding flowers made in 1964 by ‘Pick-A-Posy’ all those years ago. How fantastic is that!
The history what we know starts really from when Kay took ownership in 1975. She bought the shop from a lady in that year. Kay was well know in the community with owning the public house ‘The Bull’ on London road in Strood. She wanted to venture into a new hobby. She found out that the florist was being sold where she regularly bought her flowers for ‘The Bull’ public house.
That was it, her new adventure was found and she owned the shop for an incredible 37 years. She really did work hard to keep Pick-A-Posy a float. Working alone and then shutting the shop at lunch times to do the flower deliveries. This she done for many years along with another two jobs after the shop was shut at night. How amazing, a truly remarkable lady to keep this Florist a float within recessions throughout those years too.
Kay knew Michelle as she worked for her late husband in a florist in Sittingbourne. Their working relationship really started in 2000, where Michelle joined Kay in Pick-A-Posy that year. They formed a great professional working relationship and a great bond, which will last a lifetime.
Kay decided to retire in 2012 and gave Michelle the great opportunity to take over the business. Kay was always pleased that Michelle would want to continue with Pick-A-Posy. In 2012 Michelle rebranded the business and added the name Pick-A-Posy by Michelle. She always wanted to keep the name but to add her own stamp to the business.
October 2017 marks a great turning point with a complete re branding of the design of the logo and the launch of the new fabulous website. Now the name has a new great twist it will be known as Pick-A-Posy Flowers by Michelle. Pick-A-Posy goes from strength to strength, it maybe a very small quirky shop but it is one of the busiest florist in Medway and continues to grow.
